Ambassador Announces Fundraiser

BROWARD COUNTY — New Zealand’s ambassador to the United States says that his country wants to return the hospitality shown in South Florida by helping with the rebuilding after Hurricane Wilma.

Ambassador John Wood announced that his country’s marine industry will host a fundraiser and auction on Saturday to support relief efforts in South Florida.

“New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and New Zealand Marine want to contribute to the rebuilding of Ft. Lauderdale, which year after year extends a very warm welcome to participants and visitors to the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show,” Wood said.

“New Zealand has attended the Ft. Lauderdale boat show for 17 years and we are indebted to the hospitality, spirit and resilience of all who are working to make this a true showcase event.

“All of the 20 companies representing the very best of New Zealand’s marine industry have committed to extending their stay in Florida to make this boat show the most memorable in spite of Wilma’s assault,” he added. 

The cocktail reception will feature New Zealand food, wine and entertainment and the highlight will be a live auction for the following two Air New Zealand Premium Economy Class round trip tickets LosAngeles/Auckland, New Zealand courtesy of Down Under Answers Travel, valued at $6,000. The premium package also includes a pass for two on Explore NZ’s America’s Cup Sailing Yachts NZL41 in Auckland, the City of Sails.
